AP originally reported on military working dog Conan in November 2019, following the U.S. raid against ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

In an October 28, 2019 briefing, General Mark Milley said the military working dog had been slightly wounded, was recovering and had returned to duty with its handler. This is a historical report, not an update on Conan's current status.

The former article's account of the dog's specific unit, deployment totals, namesake and the number of children killed has been removed because those details were not established by the primary briefing used for this revision. Military working dogs have a different role from disability service dogs.
