Follow the equipment manufacturer's care instructions. Cleaning removes dirt and can remove germs; sanitizing and disinfecting are different processes with particular product requirements.
- Remove visible dirt using an appropriate cleaning method.
- If disinfection is needed, select a product labeled for the surface and intended use.
- Follow the exact dilution, contact time, ventilation and protective instructions.
- Rinse where required and let the item dry before the dog uses it.
- Inspect straps, stitching, buckles and other safety-critical parts afterward.
Keep pets away during the process. Never mix cleaners or use surface disinfectants on the dog. Do not assume any bleach, color-safe bleach, generic cleaner, UV device or hot cycle disinfects every material.
The original 5–10% bleach instruction, blanket boiling/dishwasher recommendations and brand-wide safety claims have been removed. Leather and mixed-material equipment may be damaged by unsuitable treatment; ask the maker rather than improvising.
