Before bringing a puppy home, prepare a safe resting area and remove things it could swallow, chew, or become tangled in. Secure medications, cleaning products, trash, and hazardous foods.
Set up comfortable bedding, fresh water, suitable toys, a properly fitted collar or harness, and a leash. A pen or gate can help you supervise access. Introduce family members and visitors calmly, with opportunities for the puppy to rest.
Arrange veterinary care and discuss vaccinations, parasite prevention, feeding, and safe social experiences. Choose food with a nutritional-adequacy statement appropriate for growth. Labels such as “holistic” or “grain-free” do not establish nutritional suitability.
